Sarah Naa Ayeley Hykkelbjerg is a native Ghanaian who was born in Accra in 1979. A dance enthusiast in her teens, Naa joined the Brother-Hood Cultural Troupe of Ghana in 1990. She received a certificate as the best dancer, became a dance student at Noyam in 1999 and successfully completed her studies as a professional dancer, teacher and choreographer in 2001. As a teaching assistant at Noyam under the artistic direction of Nii-Yartey, she taught, performed, choreographed and travelled both nationally and internationally.
In 2005 she presented her first creation ‘Inner Joy’ at the Fontys Dance Festival (Netherlands), in 2005 she choreographed ‘Choauc Puu’ with Moukam Fonkam (Cameroon), in 2006 ‘Don’t be Afraid’ with Sarakasi Trust (Kenya), in 2013 ‘Independances Women’ (Ghana). She has worked with numerous choreographers such as: F Nii-Yartey (Ghana), H-Patte (UK), Joshua Trebi (Ghana/Holland), Monty Thomson (U.S.A.), Addy Becquart (Holland), Frank Michellet (France), Sellasi Dewomu (Denmark) and Julienne Doko (Denmark).
She received a scholarship to study at the Jant-Bi School of Contemporary Dance (Senegal). Naa has lived in Denmark since 2013, where she works at the crossroads of traditional African and contemporary dance.
