IN FLUX

“Nobody knew who or what you were when you had a suit on. – Saidiya Hartman

The solo “In Flux” plays with Blackness and gender, with suits and a performative body as primary material and expression that cannot be localised and thus defies certainty.

The desire to be ungraspable, to refuse to be pinned down, is also based on questions about the gaze, the ways of seeing that attempt to confine and classify fluid bodies. Movements, sounds and images touch on various black contexts, with South African references, created in the country itself and in exile in the second half of the 20th century, playing a significant role in the performance.
