Black Pearl, born in 1994 in Mogi das Cruzes, Sao Paulo, Brazil, is a multidisciplinary artist with diverse experiences and skills in dance, teaching, choreography and directing. She began her career as a black trans woman with capoeira, hip hop and acting classes, and has since received numerous grants and awards for her outstanding contributions to the arts. In 2010, Black Pearl participated in the Seminário International de Dança de Brasília and received a scholarship from the Birgit Keil Foundation, which enabled her to complete her studies at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts. 2012 Invitation to participate in the prestigious Prix de Lausanne. 2013 Begins her dance career at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe under the direction of Birgit Keil. 2015 Creation of her first piece „Ego“ as part of “Choreographers introduce themselves”. 2016 Soloist at the Staatstheater Augsburg. 2018 Permanent member of the Gauthier Dance Company. From 2020 dancer with Richard Siegal/Ballet of Difference at Schauspiel Köln. Since 2022 official member of the BIPOC queer collective „House of Brownies“. As a researcher, Black Pearl explores the body as an artistic and political platform to subvert the (physical and symbolic) invisibility of trans people through their life stories. The aim is to deconstruct the colonial narrative of all classical forms of movement.
