W.O.M.B. (Worth Of My Body)

The performance „W.O.M.B. (Worth of My Body)” explores the poetry, compassion and pain of creating life and reflects on different cultural perceptions of motherhood.

Becoming a mother means profound changes to the body, to time and to identity. In an age fixated on hiding physical flaws, W.O.M.B. is a tribute to the signs of the body that give birth. Negative connotations such as stretch marks are challenged; in the Gbaya language they are celebrated as ancestral tattoos and represent pride in the continuity and transmission of life.

Three dancers from African and Afro-diasporic cultures share their personal transformative experiences and pay tribute to the diverse bodies of mothers.
